How the sale works
TMX publishes cocoa prices 1. Press reports describe sales from Kyela warehouses under the warehouse receipt system on an online platform 4,5. The 2021 TMX result sheets name an AMCOS as the warehouse 2. The Warehouse Receipts Regulations, 2016 (GN 109) set licensing, receipt contents and fees, and all payments must go through a financial institution 9.
The Cereals and Other Produce Regulatory Authority licenses people who market or process cereals and other produce and sets indicative prices. Its home page links to TMX. It does not name cocoa 8.

Kyela and the receipt system
The Guardian (IPP Media) reported on 14 May 2024, in an article without a byline, that Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa had watched an online auction at the Ipinda warehouse in Kyela the day before. The paper said only two buyers took part online and that he was told other buyers had failed to use the platform. It said he told the auction managers to run the system openly 4. The paper quoted Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Exaud Kigahe as saying the price had risen from TSh 25,000 per kg before the warehouse receipt system to TSh 32,000 per kg 4. No TMX or government record of this auction was found for this guide.
Cocoa is one of four crops in Kyela, with sesame, pigeon peas and cashew, brought into the warehouse receipt system. The Kyela District Cooperative Union expects to raise more than TSh 100 billion in the year to 31 March 2027, as reported by Sadam Sadick of The Citizen on 15 January 2026 5.
Before auctions
A REPOA research brief of 2012, using a 2007/08 survey, found that Kyela produced over 5,000 tonnes, about 80 percent of national output. Almost half went to five buying companies and only 1 percent was sold through cooperatives. Buyers set the prices 7.
Tanzania exported over 25,000 tonnes of cocoa worth TSh 66 billion in 2022, mostly as raw beans, as written by Zirack Andrew in an opinion column in Daily News on 19 August 2025 6.
